Did a peppy 3000 ft vertical climb yesterday on snow shoes…up the steep back of Ajax Mountain, the Midnight Mine route. Took almost three hours, which is not great, but a wonderful piece of exercise. My heart rate was surprisingly steady…at about 75-80% of my max all the way. Actually, there was a long warm up at less and a bit of a push at the end, but mostly in that band. That should have been a major aerobic workout…the kind that builds your base and moves your lactic threshold a teeny bit higher. I know i was wiped today, which is the idea. But the real pay-off? The amazing views, all the way…stunning. Great fun, and not that tough.
