One of the pleasant surprises on the road is the town that surprises you by renting decent bikes. I was stuck in Sante Fe for three days, giving a talk and found a neat little bike store that rented some pretty good road bikes. So, in addition to the gym at the hotel (not bad) I got to ride out into the amazing mountains around the town for some really nice trips. Usually you lose a little on the road; this time I gained a bit.
